China-Aid Medical Supplies Handed Over to Grenada to Fight Against COVID-19

On April 10th, the handover ceremony of China-Aid COVID-19 Medical Supplies was held in the Ministerial Complex, St. George's. H.E. Dr. Zhao Yongchen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Grenada handed over a batch of Medical supplies to the Government of Grenada on behalf the Chinese Government. The donation includes 500 units of N95 masks, protective suits, protective goggles, disposable medical gloves and disposable medical boot covers, as well as 100 forehead thermometers. Hon. Peter David, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Nickolas Steele, Minister for Health, Social Security & International Business, Hon. Norland Cox, Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture & The Arts, and Hon. Chester Humphrey, President of the Senate attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Zhao Yongchen said that under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China with President Xi Jinping as the core, the Chinese people were united as a whole and made great sacrifice, while the epidemic prevention and control in China has achieved phased success. Adhering to the concept of a Community of Shared Future for Mankind, China has shared anti-epidemic experience with the world, carried out international cooperation, and provided material assistance to 127 countries and 4 international organizations. He said that China remembers the solidarity and valuable support from the Grenadian government and people during China's fight against the epidemic. Currently, Grenada is making great efforts to prevent and control the spread of the epidemic, and China is also trying its best to assist Grenada within its capacity. It is firmly believed that under the leadership of Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, the people of Grenada will clinch the victory over COVID-19.

On behalf of Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, Hon. Peter David expressed heartfelt thanks to the Chinese government and people. He said that China's anti-epidemic medical supplies will further consolidate the unbreakable friendship between China and Grenada. He is glad to learn that China has achieved a phased success in the fight against COVID-19, with the lockdown in Wuhan lifted. Grenadian students in Wuhan have followed the suggestions of the Chinese Government to stay in Wuhan. They have been taken care of and are currently in good health. Through Minister Peter David, the students and their parents expressed high appreciation to China.

Hon. Nickolas Steele said that the Chinese government has taken all measures possible to stop the spread of the epidemic, made important contributions to the world's fight against the epidemic, and shared experiences with other countries. The materials donated by China will play an important role in Grenada's fight against COVID-19.
